Original 1918 poster lithograph WANTED: 25,000 Student Nurses., 28″ x 42.5″ (printed by John H. Eggers, Co NY) . Artist is Milton Bancroft (1880-1944)
Printed for the U.S. Student Nurse Reserve. The United States Student Nurse Reserve was established by Annie Warburton Goodrich in 1918. More commonly known as the Army School of Nursing, it was set up to utilize nurses' aids in Army hospitals. The nurses would be required to wear a military uniform, although they remained classified as civilians. By December of 1918 there were over 1500 student nurses in the program. This poster was made to recruit over 25,000 nurses for the war. It is a superior example, with only normal wear on the edges. A fantastic poster for a small unit of the army, and a great piece of women's history in the war effort.
